Each spring, Freezeout Lake hosts Montana’s largest waterfowl migration event. Hundreds of thousands of birds gather across the wetlands, creating an unforgettable display of movement, sound, and color.
Timed for peak migration in late March and early April, this day tour offers the chance to witness massive flocks of snow geese, tundra swans, ducks, and shorebirds along the Pacific Flyway.

Logistics & FAQS
Where do we meet?
We'll meet at Caras Park in Downtown Missoula. We'll meet under the large canopy unless otherwise stated.
When do we Start/End?
This trip begins at 7am on Day 1 and ends around 6pm.
Travel Details
This tour begins and ends in Missoula, Montana. We will have a 2.5-3 hour drive to Freezeout Lake. Once there, we will have ample opportunity to explore the area and look for large flocks of multiple species. Our group will spend 5-6 hours identifying species and discussing the ecology and conservation efforts in the area. Around midday we will break for lunch and soak in the views. Vault toilets are available at several locations on site. Montana weather in early spring can be quite unpredictable so be sure to have ample insulating layers and a rain jacket.
Safety
Safety is our utmost priority. All of our tours are led by professional guides who are all Wilderness First Responders or EMT's. Our guides have extensive guiding and wilderness experience and comply with standardized risk management protocols in case of any potential or actual incident. Group Size
By design, we keep our tours to a size of 4-12. This allows for a more intimate experience and ensures everyone is getting the most out of their trip.
Are there Age Restrictions?
We have a minimum age of 12 for our scheduled tours. For private tours the minimum age is 5.
